Sirikit Medical Center Holds Charity Drive 2003

             Thanpuying Viraya Javakul, Chairperson of the Sirikit Medical Centre Fund-Raising committee  and the Chairperson of the Ramathibodi Foundation  Central committee,  presided over  a press conference held on 17 July 2003 at the Sirikit Medical Center,Ramathibodi Hospital, to announce the proceeds from fund-raising activities that will go towards the Sirikit Medical Center in 2003.  To mark the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen on 12 August 2003, the Ramathibodi Foundation Central Committee   plans to organize a series of events to raise funds for Her Majesty the Queen’s  Sirikit Medical Center and to purchase medical equipment for the heart  center, general medical equipment, and to provide medical care for underpriviledged.
 At present the number of patients waiting to receive treatment at Ramathibodi Hospital are increasing, especially patients suffering from coronary thrombosis, a prevalent cause of death and disabilities, and a leading cause of death in Thailand when immediate treatment is not received.
 The Sirikit Medical Center Fund-Raising Program 2003 will take place on Army Television Channel 5 on Monday 4 August 2003 from 21:00-24:00 hrs. The emcees for the program will be Sanya Khunakorn and Sinjai Plengpanich.
 The program will comprise of four segment:
 1. "Phra Mae Thai" musical performance from Channel 3 in honor of Her Majesty the Queen.
 2. Comedy show from Channel 7 on a theme related to patients, doctors, and nurses.
 3. Musical performance by artists from GMM Grammy, namely Nanthida Kaewbuasai, Maleewan Jemina, Panadda Ruangwut, and Peter Corp Dyrendal.
 4. "The Sentimental Journey" by guest singers namely Thanpuying Viraya Javakul, Dolchai Boonyaratavej, Assistant Professor Duangjai Amatyakul, Vinai Phunturak, Virat Yoothavorn, Vichai Boonyayanta, Isariya Khooprasert, Kanyarat Boonying, Saran Suebsantiwongse, Tongchai Lertarunwatana, Arthur Panyachote, Varut Sarobol, and Rungrat Kuisuwan. The theme follows travels through four regions:firstly, Europe with songs like La Vie En Rose, O Sol Mio, Edelweiss; secondly, the USA with I Left My Heart In San Francisco, New York New York; thirdly, Latin America with Pepito, Quando Quando Quando, Besame Mucho; and finally Thailand with a series of Thai songs.
 The program will also feature a multivision slide presentation highlighting Her Majesty the Queen's support for the medical profession Thailand, and the history of the Sirikit Medical Center. THAI Joins Hands with bmi british midland to Expand Network

Thai Airways International is expanding its routenet in the United Kingdom through a code share system with bmi british midland, the UK's second largest full service scheduled airline. With the new link, THAI passengers will be able to fly from Bangkok through to Belfast,Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Teesside and Dublin. The code share agreement is effective immediately.

According to THAI’s Executive Vice President for Commercial, Mr. Tasnai Sudasna na Ayudhya, the code share agreement between THAI and british midland (bmi), a Star Alliance member, will increase travel opportunities and convenience for passengers flying with both airlines.Not only will passengers have a greater choice of destinations, but they will also experience the convenience of check-through to the final
destination, accumulated mileage points on THAI's 1Royal Orchid Plus and bmi's respective frequent flyer programs, and the privilege of using airport lounges worldwide. The cooperation will also improve flight connectivity and help to enhance tourism for both countries.

In the first phase of the code share agreement, THAI will offer code share flights on bmi from London to seven destinations in the UK, while in the second phase, bmi will be able to offer code share flights on THAI's London-Bangkok route.

THAI currently flies to 72 different destinations in 34 countries worldwide. As member of the Star Alliance, THAI also offers links to over 800 destinations worldwide.

THAI Launches "Visit Bangkok and Beyond" Campaign with 25% Discount

 Thai Airways International Public Company Limited announced that the airline will launch its latest travel promotion campaign "Visit Bangkok and Beyond" with a 25 percent discount off normal fares for all domestic flights on 30-31 July 2003. Discount tickets can be purchased at THAI's sales offices and regional sales agents throughout Thailand. The campaign aims to encourage tourist travel in the Thai province and to support the "Luck is in the Air" campaign.

   According to Mr. Tasnai Sudasna na Ayudhya, THAI’s Executive Vice President for
  Commercial, the new campaign "Visit Bangkok and Beyond" is being introduced to boost travel between Bangkok and Thailand. The campaign will run during 30-31 July 2003, and THAI’s sales offices in Bangkok and THAI’s regional ticket agents ( excluding THAI ticket agents in Bangkok) will offer a 25 percent discount on all classes of domestic travel. Therefore tourists will be encouraged to fly to Bangkok or to destinations beyond Bangkok.

   The only requirement stipulated in this offer is that journeys must start from any domestic destination outside of Bangkok, with travel conducted  and must be taken within the month of September 2003.

   It is anticipated that this campaign will be well-received by tourists and THAI passengers and will aid in significantly boosting. The campaign  is also expected to attract potential travellers to conduct air travel, with a further attraction being the opportunity to win a free ticket in the a board lucky draw as part of THAI’s "Luck is in the Air" campaign.

   Interested passengers may obtain further information at THAI’s sales offices in Bangkok,   and at THAI ticket agents throughout the country.

THAI Clarifies Situation on TG991/ 15 July 2003

The Public Relations Office of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited clarified situation concerning the incident on board THAI’s flight TG991 en route Bangkok – Sydney on 15 July 2003.

According to the cabin report, shortly after dinner two male passengers were involved in an argument which ended up with one of the passengers, a Vietnamese resident of Sydney, being slightly injured. One male passenger was apparently attacked with a fork.  First aid treatment was given to the injured passenger and the attacker was restrained and put at the rear of the aircraft.

Following THAI’s procedure in handling unruly passengers, the Pilot in Command reported the incident to the concerned authority on ground in Sydney and coordinated with THAI’s ground staff for immediate assistance.  Ambulance was waiting at the arrival of THAI’s flight TG991 and the injured passenger was immediately taken to Sydney hospital for further treatment and diagnosed and he was allowed to return home on the same day. The Sydney police held the attacker for further
questioning.

THAI’s flight TG991 operated by Boeing 747-400 aircraft departed Bangkok on 15 July 2003 at 18.15 hrs. and arrived in Sydney at 06.15 today (16 July 2003), carrying a total of 361 passengers and 21crew.

THAI Cuts Ground Handling Charges by Half

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited is reducing its ground handling, passenger and cargo handling charges by 50 percent at regional airports for a period of one year in order to make the country more attractive to other airlines in an effort to become an aviation centre for the region.

THAI President, Mr Kanok Abhiradee, disclosed that the Civil Aviation Board has agreed to promote Thailand's regional airports as an aviation hub to support the government's policy. The national airline will therefore offer its full cooperation by reducing handling fees for ground, passenger and cargo by 50 percent at airports in Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Phuket and Hat Yai. This discount only applies to new airlines, additional scheduled flights, and charter flights for a period of one year as of now until 30 April 2004. This is expected to be well received by THAI's airline customers and other international airlines planning to fly to any of Thailand's regional
airports in the future.

THAI’s Passengers Gets Lucky Under New Campaign

July 3, 2003, lucky winners were selected by Thai Airways International from its passengers on all international outbound flights from Bangkok and all domestic flights, including passengers who missed the opportunity to win during the inflight draw from all international inbound flights. This lucky draw event is a part of its "Luck is in the Air" campaign to promote air travel and boost tickets sales and the tourism industry. Presiding at the lucky draw, held at THAI's head office, was THAI’s President Mr. Kanok Abhiradee.

 Mr. Abhiradee announced that the lucky draw was the first of a series for international outbound passengers on THAI flights leaving Bangkok and all domestic flights. Also included in the draw were passengers on all international inbound flights who missed the opportunity to win a prize during the inflight draw starting from June 22, 2003.

 One lucky draw event is being held each week over the next 15 weeks. For this first draw, over 100,000 coupons have been collected, and 300 free tickets will be given away. Winners from all domestic flights will be given a return ticket in economy class routed between Bangkok and one of 10 domestic destinations on THAI’s routenet, namely Phuket, Trang, Krabi, Surat Thani and Hat Yai in the south; Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phitsanulok in the north; Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani in the northeast. The prize tickets are valid from 1 October - 31 December 2003.

 A number of special guests were invited to witness the lucky draw including Mr. Chalor Kocharat,Permanent-Secretary of Transport; Mr. Sura Kentanasil, Director of Modern 9 Television; Pol.Capt.Dr. Nitiphum Navarat, columnist at Thairath newspaper; Mrs. Chantima Choeysanguan, Director of Radio Thailand; actress Ms Wichita (Nadia) Nimitvanich; and actor Mr Apinan (M) Prasertwatanakul.Winners will be announced on THAI's website at www.thaiairways.com, and in Manager Daily newspaper every Thursday.

 THAI has already been awarding free tickets to lucky winners on international inbound flights since June 22, 2003 when the campaign was first launched. One winner will be selected on board each international inbound flight, with the prize being a free return ticket on the same class and route as the winner has been travelling. The prize tickets are valid from 1 April - 30 June 2004.
