THAI Supports World Youth and Student Travel Conference

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited is one of the major supporters of the World Youth and Student Travel Conference 2003 (WYSTC)which will be held between 12-18 October, 2003 in Pattaya. THAI will act as the Official Carrier for WYSTC 2003 and will bring around 1,000 travel industry operators from around the world to Thailand for the conference.

Mr. Tasnai Sudasna, THAI's Executive Vice President, Commercial stated that the World Youth and Student Travel Conference 2003 or WYSTC will be held between 12-18 October, 2003 at the Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall (PEACH) in Chonburi province. The WYSTC is the world's biggest youth and student travel conference. The 1999 conference was also held in Thailand, in Bangkok. Thai Airways International was chosen as the Official Carrier of this event and will bring around 1,000 travel industry operators to Thailand. THAI's participation in this event will provide an opportunity for it to demonstrate its capabilities to industry professionals, while also providing the opportunity for THAI to expand its tourist market to include the youth sector. For Thailand, the conference will illustrate the country's capability to host a conference at international level.

The WYSTC 2003 will consist of seminars, workshops and conferences focusing on trends and issues in the youth and student travel sector. Specialist tour operators from Mekong and ASEAN countries will have yet another opportunity to develop contacts in this high-potential market.

For Thailand, the event will help showcase the wide variety of tourism products and services specially designed for the youth market like eco-tourism, adventure and cultural travel.

In 2001, there were 1,523,952 visitors under 25 years to Thailand, an increase of 4.72% compared to the year 2000 and comprising 15.15% of total arrivals. Overall, there were 1,137,914 visitors identifying themselves as students, an increase of 7.03% which is considered to be the fastest growing market category in Thailand.

To better serve THAI passengers at Bangkok International Airport during the renovation of check-in counters at Terminal 1 during 1-20 April 2002, THAI has temporary relocated TG check-in counters to the following location:

Royal First and Royal Executive Class
- Move from check-in row no. 3 to no. 5 tand-by passengSers and airline staff
- Move from check-in row no. 3 to no. 1 Group check-in
- Move from check-in row no.1 to no. 4 TG flights to Los Angeles via Japan
- Move from check-in row no. 4 to row no. 6

THAI Increases Flights for Songkran Festival

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited will increase its flight operations on both domestic and international routes during the Songkran Festival between 12-16 April, 2002 in order to meet the increase in demand from air travelers during the holiday. THAI will increase flights on the following routes:

Domestic Routes
1. Bangkok – Phuket, return: additional 6 flights on April 13, 15 and 16, 2002
2. Bangkok – Chiang Mai, return: additional 2 flights on April 13 and 16, 2002

International Routes
1. Bangkok – Beijing, return: additional 2 flights on April 12 and 16, 2002
On some routes THAI will replace its aircraft with larger ones, which will be utilized during the Songkran Festival to satisfy the high demand from air travelers during this period. In addition, THAI will continue to monitor the reservation status on other routes and consider flight increases if required.

THAI Sweeps PATA Gold Awards

Four advertising entries of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited recently won top prizes in the PATA Gold Awards for third consecutive year.

Mr. Tasnai Sudasna, THAI’s Executive Vice President, Commercial, said THAI submitted a selection of advertising work to compete at the 51st PATA Gold Awards. The four entries, which were voted best out of the 24 PATA Gold Awards categories were:

The Golden Land: Thailand/Cambodia/Laos/Myanmar

2. Category - Travel Advertisement – Electronic Media THAI domestic TV commercial “Sawasdee Andaman”

4. Category - Travel Poster “Smooth as Silk to Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and Hong Kong”

THAI won more awards than any other organization in the Asia Pacific region and became the only PATA airline member to obtain the Gold Awards for three consecutive years.

Mr. Peter de Jong, President and CEO, Pacific Asia Travel Association, said that the PATA Gold Awards were recognised as the highest achievement in the travel industry, and THAI has demonstrated remarkable creativity and innovation in the new century.

This year, the competition for each award category was based conducted in various countries for example the travel ad was judged in the United States, the travel poster in Australia, while the culture and brochure categories were judged in Bangkok. “Thai Airways has set an exceptional standard and established itself as a truly leading international company in this region,” added Mr. Peter de Jong.

The PATA Gold Awards presentation will take place at the PATA Annual Conference during 14-17 April in New Delhi, India.

THAI Royal Orchid Plus Signs Contract with Thai Military Bank

April 1, 2002, Mr. Kobchai Srivilas, Acting President, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, signed the TMB BONUS PLUS contract with Mr. Somchai Sakulsurarat, CEO & President, Thai Military Bank, representing a joint cooperation between THAI’s Royal Orchid Plus Frequent Flyer Program and Thai Military Bank. Also present was Mr. Somboon Krobteerawongs, Country Manager, Visa International (Thailand and Indochina) Limited. The contract signing ceremony and press conference took place at the Sky Lounge, 33rd floor, Thai Military Bank Head Office on Phaholyothin Road.

The TMB BONUS PLUS program offers reward points to customers using VISA or VISA
Electron debit cards, to redeem their mileage points on Royal Orchid Plus in exchange for award tickets on THAI or any Star Alliance carrier.

During the program introduction period between 1 April – 1 May 2002, cardholders of the Thai Military Bank VISA and VISA Electron debit card can exchange 1.5 card points for 1 THAI Royal Orchid Plus mile instead of the normal 2 card points to mile conversion.

THAI Inaugurates Flights to Busan, The Republic of Korea

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited operated its inaugural flight on the route Bangkok - Busan, the Republic of Korea.

Mr.Tasnai Sudasna, THAI's Executive Vice President, Commercial, said that THAI operations to Busan would boost the tourism industry both in Thailand and the Republic of Korea as well as enhance the economic relationship between the two countries. The Republic of Korea has shown significant economic growth and THAI's flight operation to Busan would boost air travel between Thailand and the Republic of Korea and cater for the rising number of passengers traveling from Thailand and overseas countries for the upcoming World Cup 2002 and the 14th Asian Games in October 2002, which will be hosted in Busan.

THAI will utilise Airbus A300-600 aircraft to operate on the route between Bangkok and Busan. The aircraft seats 260 passengers: with 28 in executive class and 232 in economy class. THAI now flies twice weekly every Thursday and Sunday, with the following details:
