THAI Reduces Bangkok - Los Angeles Flights
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited announced that it will reduce the flight frequency between Bangkok and Los Angeles from 7 to 4 flights per week and will increase 3 additional flights per week between Bangkok and Tokyo, effective 28 March 2004 onwards.
Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAI's President, said that based on the company's policy to reduce traffic on non-profitable routes, increasing flights on profitable routes and due to traffic demand, THAI will reduce flight operations between Bangkok and Los Angeles from daily flights to four flights per week via Osaka, Japan, utilizing B747-400 aircraft. Flight reduction will help THAI save some 600 million baht annually and maximize aircraft utilization. The flight adjustment will also generate profit of approximately 1 billion baht annually. The new flights schedule are as follows:

THAI announces strategy on identity and service improvement and signs agreement with Interbrand
24 February 2004, at Thai Airways International's Head Office, Prof. Dr. Chai-anan Samudavanija, member of THAI's Board of Directors and Chairman of the airline's Corporate Identity Committee, presided at the press conference on "THAI's strategy on identity and service improvement towards being first choice carrier" and the contract signing ceremony between THAI, by Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAI's President, and Interbrand Thailand Inc., by Mr. Chuck Brymer, Interbrand's Group Chief Executive Officer, to develop THAI's new corporate identity.
THAI's new corporate identity development is another of THAI's corporate strategies according to Prof. Dr. Chai-anan Samudavanija, THAI Board member and Chairman of the airline's Corporate Identity Committee. THAI's new corporate identity aims to support the government's policy to combine public and private sector efforts as well as the general public to compete in the global market, and to create sustainable development for society. The new identity will be evident at the new Suvarnabhumi Airport, in the cabin refurbishment which is expected to be completed by December 2004 as well as the new Airbus 340-600 to be delivered in 2005. THAI issued Terms of Reference (TOR) for various design consultants, both local and international, on 2 May 2003, and six consultancies submitted proposals. THAI's criteria for selection included : Concept and strategy, Reputation and experience, Creativity, Quality and Comprehensiveness of Proposal, and Practicality.
Interbrand was the final choice to help develop THAI's new corporate identity. Its High Trust World Class and Thai Touch concepts will add an international aspect in the Contemporary Modern Thai Style that will cover all the five senses. The concepts will apply to all aspects of the corporate identity from Basic identity such as Logo and Colour, Aircraft Fuselage, Cabin decoration: colour of seats, walls, carpets, atmosphere, inflight utilities from crockery to printed material and inflight entertainment, Decoration of service stations at Bangkok International Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport, such as check-in counters, airport, lounges and departure areas, Decor of sales offices and THAI offices, THAI vehicles, and Signage.
Mr. Abhiradee announced that it was necessary to maintain an edge in the competitive global aviation industry. THAI's campaign "Towards Asian Leadership" aims to make the airline a regional leader as well as one of the top five airlines in the world. The strategy puts THAI on the offensive in this competition, putting creativity and customer delight at the forefront of the strategy. In the past, THAI has constantly upgraded the quality of its services and introduced new services for the convenience and benefit of its customers. These include:
THAI's Ground Service Improvement include :
· Call Centre service to provide direct dial information to customers.
· Royal e-Service including Royal e-Booking, Royal e-Ticket and Royal e-Check-in using modern information technology for THAI passengers
· Royal Transfer in a new Mercedes Fleet for First Class passengers between the airport and their hotels/residents in Bangkok.
· Providing Premium Customer Service to Royal First Class and Royal Executive Class passengers from the moment they step into the airport until they reach their final destination, with dedicated staff to handle luggage, assist with check-in and immigration procedures, use of special Royal Orchid Lounges and Royal Transfer to the departure gate.
· Enhanced decor for the Royal First Class and Royal Executive Class Lounges with an emphasis on Thainess and modern amenities.THAI's Inflight Service Improvement include:
· Improving seat comfort in Royal First Class to decline at 180 degree and 170 degree in Royal Executive Class on THAI's 9 Boeing 747-400s aircraft and 8 Boeing 777-200s aircraft. The installation of new seats on these aircrafts is expected to complete by the end of 2004.
· Improving Inflight Entertainment System with Audio VDO on Demand with Touch Screen and Handset with a wide variety of movies and songs on THAI's 9 Boeing 747-400s aircraft and 8 Boeing 777-200s aircraft. The installation of new system on these aircrafts is expected to complete by the end of 2004 and the installation of Airbus A340 will be complete within 2005.
· Special Inflight Meals, THAI will selected popular dishes from destinations to which THAI operates. In addition, special menus prepared by guest chefs from leading restaurants and pre-ordered meals as well as a comprehensive Thai menu for Royal First Class passengers.
· Cabin Crew Training, THAI will be introducing proactive training program for cabin crew to enhance their ways of thinking and become even more service-ninded.THAI has also introduced the "Fly THAI with Thai Artists" campaign where First and Business Class passengers can have their portraits drawn on daylight flights between Bangkok and London, Paris and Frankfurt.

THAI Sponsors Air Freight Asia 2004 Conference & Exhibition
18 February 2004, Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, President, Thai Airways International together with Mr. Chanchai Singtoroj, THAIs Managing Director, Cargo and Mail Commercial Department attended the Opening Ceremony of Air Freight Asia 2004 Conference & Exhibition, and welcome by Mr. Samart Yolpak, Thailands Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, who chaired the ceremony and was the keynote speaker on the topic, The Importance of Thailand as a Hub for Cargo Logistics in Southeast Asia, at Bangkok Convention Center on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. The 11th Air Freight Asia, held on 18-19 February 2004, was organized by Mr. Nol van Fenema, Payload Asias publisher and included exhibits from THAI and representatives from all sectors of the air freight industry and was attended by over 500 senior cargo executives of airlines, shippers (manufacturers, importers and exporters), freight forwarders,airports, as well as aircraft and cargo handling equipment manufacturers.
Mr. Chanchai Singtoroj, THAIs Managing Director, Cargo and Mail Commercial Department said that the Air Freight Asia Conference Exhibition was held for the second time in Thailand with THAI as the Official Airline. On this occasion, THAIs Cargo and Mail Commercial Department held an exhibit with displays and presentations on its activities and services at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, which will be officially opened in September 2005. THAI Cargo at Suvarnabhumi Airport will cover an area of 90,000 square meters with the ability to provide cargo services up to 966,000 tons per year in the first phase, expanding to 1,226,000 tons per year by 2010. In addition, the management of cargo at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be under the Customs Free Zone environment as part of the support for the Thai Governments policy to make Suvarnabhumi Airport a major cargo hub of Asia. Operation under Customs Free Zone will enable shipments to be freely moved within the area without customs formalities.
In addition, THAIs exhibit will introduce the implementation of THAI Cargos new theme, THAI Cargo Thai Care which will focus on a new proactive marketing strategy to become a customer-led organization, with its new vision Focus on You. Mr. Chanchai Singtoroj will give a speech on Thai Cargo Facilities at Suvarnabhumi providing information on the readiness and equipment investment of THAI Cargo at the Suvarnabhumi Airport under the Customs Free Zone environment, on Friday, 20 February 2004 at 10.00-12.00 hrs.
Air Freight Asia 2004 Conference and Exhibition has been organized every 2 years since 1986 in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region. Its activities include conferences where representatives of the air freight industry could present their views and opinions on all aspects of the industry and its development over the next few years. THAI Holds Seminar on Preparations for Suvarnabhumi Airport Migration
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited recently held a seminar at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, to discuss THAIs migration plans from Bangkok International Airport at Don Muang to Suvarnabhumi Airport, under the topic, THAI Towards Suvarnabhumi. The Seminar was attended by THAIs Management, including Mr. Kobchai Srivilas , THAIs Senior Executive Vice President, Corporate Planning and Information Technology Services Department, THAIs Committee for Migration Planning from Business Units which will be migrated to Suvarnabhumi Airport, namely Cargo & Mail Commercial, Operations Center, Catering Services, Ground Support Equipment Services, Aircraft Maintenance Center and Customer Services, as
well as Information Technology Services Department and representatives from THAIs labour union.THAI Towards Suvarnabhumi Airport seminar included discussions on the preparations for a systematic migration plan and the operation of tools and technical equipment in order to assist with future management at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
THAI And Star Alliance Identify A Range Of Projects And Issues For Future Cooperation.
Star Alliance, the airline alliance, and Thai Airways International Public Company Limited today announced they have jointly identified a wide range of customer benefit projects and issues which they intend cooperating on in the future, including at Bangkoks new Suvarnabhumi Airport.
THAI is one of only five founding members of Star Alliance, the worlds most established and largest airline alliance. Star Alliance has now grown to 15 members in seven years, with US Airways due to join later this year.
The range of joint initiatives were identified at a high powered joint workshop of Star Alliance and THAI senior executives in Bangkok. The workshop was initiated by THAI President Kanok Abhiradee..
Mr Abhiradee said there were a number of large Star Alliance projects he would like to see THAI get involved in, and also take a lead on.
THAI as a founding member of Star Alliance is fully committed to playing an active role in moving Star Alliance projects forward for the best benefit to alliance passengers worldwide. THAI intends to be first in line in making these alliance projects possible, as Star Alliance has become the leading airline alliance in the world and THAI is proud to be a part of it.
THAI will take the lead to develop the new airport into a efficient Star Alliance Hub, said Star Alliance Chief Executive Officer Jaan Albrecht. The opening of
Suvarnabhumi Airport is only just around the corner. We are committed to working with THAI to ensure there is one voice heard from THAI and Star Alliance carriers on the airport issue. THAI Wins Best ASEANTA Awards 2004
Mr. Serm Phenjati , Thai Airways Internationals Director of Commercial Promotion, recently received two prestigious awards on behalf of THAI for winning of the best ASEANTA Awards 2004 in topics namely Best ASIAN Marketing & Promotional Campaign Award won for the Luck is in the Air 20,000 Free Thailand Return Tickets program, and the award namely Best of Tourism Article won by THAIs Inflight Magazine Sawasdee. The awards were presented at The ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), in Vientiane, LAO PDR. Also seen in the picture was Mr. Sitthi Tandavanitj , President of THAI Hotel Association.
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited is organising a "Fly THAI with Thai Artists" campaign during which First Class and Business Class passengers will have an opportunity to have their portraits drawn by leading Thai artists while airborne. The programme, in conjunction with Silpakorn University, will take place from 14 February - 9 April 2004.
According to Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAIs President, the "Fly THAI with Thai Artists" campaign has been introduced to enhance marketing promotions in the airline industry. The programme is also expected to give passengers a memorable flight, as well as promote the skills of local artists. Silpakorn University has selected 17 well-known artists to take part in the project. They include five leading portrait artists, namely Professor Chayanant Avatto, Mr. Sompop Butraraj, Mr.Prateep Kochbua, Mr. Suwat Wanmanee, and Mr. Chainarong Kongklin who will be alternating their services to First and Business Class passengers on flights between Bangkok and London, Frankfurt or Paris; while another 12 portrait artists will take turns in the First and Business Class lounges in the international and domestic terminals at Bangkok International Airport. The portraits will be framed in time for boarding, creating a permanent memento for passengers flying THAI.
The "Fly THAI with Thai Artists" campaign will be offered from 14 February - 9 April 2004 and is only one of many more goodwill gestures from THAI to their passengers in the near future.
THAI Organizes Thai Airways International and Star Alliance A World of Opportunities Workshop
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited will jointly hold a management workshop with Star Alliance under the topic Thai Airways International and
Star Alliance A World of Opportunities which will be held on 13 February 2004 at Amari Watergate Hotel.According to Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAIs President, the workshop will provide a good platform for THAIs Management and executives to further discuss opportunities on THAIs position and benefits from Star Alliance.

THAI Increases Flights for the Summer Timetable 2004
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited is adding three new destinations as well as rerouting and increasing flights for the new summer timetable starting 28 March 30 October 2004. The new destinations are Milan in Italy, Jihong (Xixongpanna) in China, and Bangalore in India.
Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAIs President, said that the new changes are in line with the expansion of the investment market as well as the demand for business and leisure travel. The new summer timetable for 2004 will therefore include three new destinations: Milan in Italy, Jihong (Xixongpanna) in China, and Bangalore in India
Frequencies will be increased on the Bangkok-London and Bangkok-Munich routes to cater to the increase in demand. This is also part of the airlines policy to increase profitable flights and reduce those that incur losses. The new summer timetable will start from 28 March to 30 October 2004.
New Destinations
- Bangkok-Milan: two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays, utilizing Boeing 747-300 aircraft (starting 1 May 2004)
- Bangkok-Bangalore: four weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, utilizing Airbus 300-600 aircraft (starting 29 March 2004)
- Chiang Mai -Jihong (Xixongpanna): two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays utilizing ATR 72 aircraft (starting on 31 March 2004)New Routes
- Bangkok-Bahrain-Kuwait: three weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays utilizing Airbus 300-600 aircraft.Increased Frequencies
- Bangkok-London: with one additional day flight bringing the total to 6 weekly flights, utilizing Boeing 747-400 aircraft. THAI also operates 7 weekly night flights, bringing the total number to 13 weekly flights (starting 1 May 2004).

THAI Boosts Information Technology Implementation for Maximum Organization Management
9 February 2004 at 13.30 hours at the Head Office of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAIs President,presided over a press conference on THAIs Information Technology Implementation for Maximum Organization Management, alongside Mr. Kobchai Srivilas, THAIs Senior Executive Vice President, Corporate Planning and Information Technology Services Department, Mr. Suthep Suebsantiwongse, THAIs Executive Vice President, Commercial Department, Flg. Off. Veerachai Sripa, THAIs Executive Vice President, Operations Department, and Wg. Cdr. Supachai Limpisvasti, THAIs Managing Director, Technical Department, during a press conference that was attended by THAIs Management and members of the press.
Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAIs President, said that information technology today has advanced to great levels and is an important tool in competing effectively.
THAI acknowledges the importance that this tool plays in its organization and has implemented the use of information technology (IT) in the airlines various functions for maximum organization management effectiveness. THAI aims to attain change in its implementation of IT systems and business processes which will improve work performance levels effectively, decrease the airlines expenses in various areas, decrease time allocated to work processes, achieve information system integration, in order to deliver service provision satisfaction in real time for passengers, customers, investors, and employees.THAIs information systems that will be utilized for organization management are as follows:
1. Corporate Planning and Information Technology Services Department
THAI has introduced information technology in the airlines network planning for maximum effectiveness, stressing the importance of passenger travel convenience. The system is utilized for network planning and connecting flights, to increase passenger convenience and further increase THAIs passenger traffic.
The company is in the process of changing its main frame computer system in order to facilitate modern technology and the increased need to accumulate information. The system will aid in providing increased passenger convenience for speedy delivery of services that rely on information technology.
2. Operations Department
THAI has introduced crew management system in order to manage cabin crew in the area of long term planning through to daily operations. Crew management system allows the airline to manage its crew personnel effectively utilizing the least budget possible. In addition, the system will aid in better managing flight on-time performance, supporting the airlines competitive edge, due to investment in crew management that improved effectiveness.
3. Commercial Department
THAI has developed and introduced the centralized intelligent fares project to further develop its net/negotiated fares database. This system was developed to
effectively facilitate price establishment input into a central sales system and to develop a centralized fare database maintenance and global distribution system. In
addition, revenue management system was introduced, which will aid in managing network optimization.4. Human Resources and General Administration
THAI stresses the importance of good governance by implementing the good governance system in its purchasing and bidding process through the use of
electronic e-auction for speedy delivery, transparency, and effectiveness. As a result, THAI has succeeded in obtaining high quality products that are appropriate for their purpose and aid in cost savings.5. Technical Department
THAI has introduced the new maintenance and engineering project to its aircraft maintenance plan and the purchasing of aircraft spare parts, for increased work
effectiveness and to better manage its purchasing plan and achieve cost savings.THAI is confident that its modern information technology systems will become another milestone in the airlines achievement and attainment of objectives to
