THAI Offers Special Packages to Boost Tourism in Thailand Thai Airways International Public Company Limited has recently introduced special airfares to boost tourism in Thailand in support of the governments policy. Mr. Tasnai Sudasna, THAIs Executive Vice President, Commercial, said that these special fares have been introduced for the benefit of both passengers and Thailand, as they promote extensive travel within the country. Details of the promotional programs are as follows:
1. Around Thailand Fares for Thai nationals and residents of Thailand who wish to purchase economy-class air ticket from now until 31 December 2002. (These fares are not applicable to tickets already purchased.) The ticket must include confirmed travel of between four to six destinations. The fares are calculated in relation to the distance traveled as follows:

For instance, this promotion offers a ticket from Chiang Mai (North) down to Phuket (South) within the same day at 3,840 Baht*. Normally, passengers have to purchase air tickets on the routes Chiang Mai Bangkok at 2,170 Baht* and Bangkok Phuket at 2,625 Baht*, totaling 4,795 Baht*. The promotion offers a saving of 955 Baht*.

THAI Opens Town Office in Chengdu, People's Republic of China 26 January 2002, Mr. Virabongsa Ramangkura, Chairman, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, together with representatives from travel agents, guests and members of the press traveled on board THAI's official inaugural flight to Chengdu, the People's Republic of China. Mr. Virabongsa Ramangkura also chaired an official opening of THAI's office in Chengdu. Present as honoured guests were H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, the Thai Ambassador to the People's Republic of China and the Governor of Sichuan Province.

THAI Announces Board Meeting Results 24 January 2002, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited held a Board of Directors Meeting, chaired by THAIs Chairman Mr. Virabongsa Ramangkura, with the following results:

THAI Wins Advertising Award in Japan The advertising campaign of Thai Airways International Public Company Limiteds Osaka Office has recently been declared the winner of the Kodansha Advertising Award 2001. THAI has been the recipient of this prestigious award for two consecutive years.
Mr. Tasnai Sudasna, THAIs Executive Vice President, said that, This advertising campaign aims to promote THAIs flight operations and passengers convenience on the route between Osaka to Bangkok, with a visual presentation focusing on THAIs midnight flight that says TG is waiting for you at the airport at midnight. The ad was launched in the Kansai One Week, one of the most popular magazines among Japanese teenage readers.
Kodansha Advertising Award was launched in 1979, and the recipients of the award are selected based on appraisals and votes submitted by readers of the magazine. This year, over 60,000 readers participated in voting for the advert of their choice.
THAI was awarded the Kodansha Advertising Award silver prize last year.

THAI Installs Flight Deck Door Security on 16 Boeings Thai Airways International Public Company Limited announced an installation of Flight Deck Door Security to improve inflight safety for pilot and cabin crew on aircraft between Bangkok and the US.
Sqn. Ldr. Udomchai Nandamanop, THAIs Executive Vice President, said although the revised cockpit safety and security regulations set by Federal Aviation Adminstration (FAA) are applied only to US airlines following the September attacks to prevent unauthorized entry into the cockpit, THAI recognizes the urgency to ensure maximum safety and security on board for both passengers and crew traveling with THAI to avoid any unexpected occurrences.
THAI plans to install a dead-bolt metal and bullet proof flight deck door on all of its 16 Boeing 747-400 aircraft, which is expected to complete by April 2003. The door will be supplied by Boeing Airplane Services (BAS). THAI will also install the same security system on other aircraft in its fleet.
The Air Traffic Control (ATC) Transponders have also been upgraded to enable the pilot to alert the air traffic control on ground of any emergency situation on board aircraft.

Ministry of Transport and Communications Organizes National Aviation Day 2002
11 January 2002, Mr. Srisook Chandrangsu, Permanent Secretary of Transport and Communications, presided over the Opening Ceremony of National Aviation Day 2002 and introduction of the project concerning the historic flight of Kruang Bin Nang Sao Siam or the Miss Siam historical aircraft. The National Aviation Day project was organized by the Transport and Communications and ministerial functions, in the Hangar of Wing 602, Royal Thai Air Force, Don Muang.
National Aviation Day 2002 was organized in honor of His Majesty King Mongkut, Rama VI, revered as the founder of aviation in Thailand, and also to promote advancements made in Thai aviation to members of the Thai public and youths. During the event, the historic flight project concerning Kruang Bin Nong Sao Siam or the Miss Siam historical aircraft was officially introduced, the aircraft being Thailands first civil aviation aircraft which belongs to the Foundation for the Preservation and Development of Thai Aviation, under Royal Patronage. The project was also initiated to commemorate the accomplishments of Mr. Luen Pongsophon, the Thai pilot who flew in the historic aircraft across Thailand to China in the year 1932, an effort which established friendly relations with China in Shantou 70 years ago. This years event for
National Aviation Day was recognized over a period of three days during 11-13 January 2002 from 09.30 16.00 hours, coinciding with National Childrens Day 2002 which was also acknowledged at the event held at the Royal Thai Air Force.The Ministry of Transport and Communications invited representatives from the government and private sectors to join in the event and exhibition, those being from over 30 functions such as the Royal Thai Air Force, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Department of Aviation, the Civil Aviation Institute, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, the Airports Authority of Thailand, and AERO-THAI Limited, to display over 30 types of exhibits concerning military and commercial aviation. An air show was also conducted with Royal Thai Air Force F-16 and alpha jet aircraft, including a display if aircraft from past to present eras and flight of a computerized aircraft.
THAI Arranges Special Flights During Haj Pilgrimage
Thai Airways International Public Limited plans to arrange 12 special flights to transport Thai Muslims to Makkah in Saudi Arabia to participate in the Haj, a Muslim pilgrimage ritual.
Mr. Kobchai Srivilas, THAIs Acting President, said that THAI has arranged 12 special flights, with 10 flights departing from Hat Yai and 2 flights departing from Phuket on the routes Hat Yai-Jiddah v.v., and Phuket-Jiddah v.v. utilizing Airbus A300-600 aircraft, aimed to serve Thai Muslims who wish to participate in the Haj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

- Departing flights : TG 8504 on 18, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31 January 2002 and 10, 12, 14 February 2002
- Returning flights: TG 8507 on 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 23, 25, and 27 March 2002

- Returning flights: TG 8511 on 19 and 21 March 2002The specially arranged flights are expected to serve approximately 3,084 Thai Muslim passengers travelling to participate in the Haj. In order to facilitate passenger comfort and convenience, THAI will prepare several special ground and inflight services. For example, THAIs ground service staff will assist passengers at the final destination. Special HALAL meals, medical kit, and inflight guidance information will be available
for Muslim passengers during these flights. Moreover, THAIs crew members onboard have been trained in basic emergency care for the elderly in case special assistance may be needed inflight.
